In support of the Scottish Battlefields Trust, we are expanding our actvities back to the wars of the 1540s.
This was a troubled time in southern Scotland. Henry VIII of England was eager to betrothe his young son Edward to the infant heir of James V of Scotland, uniting the kingdoms. The fighting that followed became increasingly bitter, old rivalries now fought out with the brutal weaponry of a new modern age.
The war that devastated the south of Scotland in the 1540s was bloody and costly, with English French and Scottish armies all on campaign in an increasingly exhausted landscape. Loyalties were uncertain, expeditions costly and often futile, and victory was fleeting. These are the days we're bringing back to life!
